Queens, NY

Born and raised in Queens, New York, Kasey Dimas always had a strong admiration for her diverse, working-class community in Jackson Heights and the values she was raised upon.

As a first-generation American daughter to two immigrant parents from El Salvador, the importance of education was always emphasized at an early age. She pursued her interests in Fine Arts throughout high school and is currently a junior at the Fashion Institute of Technology pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Visual Presentation & Exhibition Design with hopes to complete her master’s in Exhibition & Experience Design.

Growing up in one of the most diverse neighborhoods in NYC, Kasey was accustomed to living in a true melting pot of cultures, ethnicities, languages, food, and so much more. However, she soon began to notice the representational inequities in higher education, particularly in the arts. As a result, she worked as a CUNY College Coach where she peer-mentored students and aid in college enrollment and youth employment in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. With a strong passion to create equal access to higher education, Kasey Dimas recognizes the dire need to give back to underrepresented communities.

With hopes of creating a non-profit arts center for Jackson Heights in the future, she strongly believes that introducing children and young adults to the world of art and design can introduce the youth to a world of exploration, expression, and representation.
